Abstract

The study examined the effect of environment degradation and desertification on food security in FCT, Abuja. The study adopted a survey design using questionnaire to elucidate responses from 99 respondents who are farmers employees of selected farms within the FCT. Regression analysis was employed to test the hypotheses formulated. The result revealed that both environmental degradation and desertification had negative and significant effects on food security. Based on that, the study recommended that gover nment at all levels should prevent desert encroachment by mandating individuals to plant five (5) for every one (1) tree brought down for any reason. And also, the study recommends that government should develop policies that are capable of preventing abus e of land by citizens thereby reducing the risk of degradation.
